Coiled Baskets, Spiraled Futures
In Spring 2025, students in Professor Jessica Horton’s graduate seminar, ARTH636: Woven Vessels, Pomo Futures will spend the semester researching an extraordinary collection of turn-of-the-twentieth century Pomo baskets in the Penn Museum in Philadelphia. Then they will travel to Ukiah, California to reconnect these vital beings to contemporary weavers and knowledge-keepers in Pomo homelands. The students will assemble their research in museum collections, archives, and living communities to seed an eventual digital publication and the text for an exhibition planned for Old College Gallery at UD in 2026.
