Technologies of Writing: Creating a Mobile Classroom Maker Lab & Teaching Collections for Literary Studies

Laura Helton,

This project will develop an undergraduate course in English, Technologies of Writing," that invites students to reflect on writing in the digital age by looking back at how past technologies (from cuneiform to the printing press) have shaped literary practices. By developing a teaching collection for the study of book history and a mobile maker lab for classroom use, Helton will bring creative workshops in book arts to the literary studies curriculum. In collaboration with UD’s Raven Press, students will learn about letterpress design, and they will study the history of printing through the rich holdings of UD’s Special Collections.
